Emma De Jong
Emma De Jong is an artist from West Des Moines, Iowa pursuing a BFA in illustration. They have always been drawn to art, and have many fond memories of family members encouraging and teaching them how to draw as a child. Emma is a fan of storytelling in all of its forms, and takes inspiration with stories from movies, books, and other media from their childhood. They love stories with both a whimsical nature as well as something mundane to draw it all together.
Emma likes to work with bright colors and patterns in their work. They have taken a liking to both traditional and digital applications, and have recently started to take a lot of inspiration from fabric. This being both how fabric can be drawn, and all the possible colors and patterns within, as well as physical fabric itself. They have started to experiment with creating illustrations using fabric. Emma’s goal with art is to create illustrations that have a more personal interaction between the art and the viewer. This could be through using a fabric illustration with different textures, or a book to flip through. They want to use the art of storytelling to create a connection between the art itself and the viewer.
