Meriam Schieber

Meriam Schieber is an illustrator, printmaker, and animal lover based in Missouri. As a child, Meriam dreamed of becoming a zookeeper, and though she changed her path, her passion for critters never disappeared. In her sketchbooks and each of her illustrations, Meriam aspires to explore the world with a childlike whimsy through the use of bright colors, bold shapes, fun textures, and loose lines. Meriam’s work has been inspired by incredible children book artists such as Gareth Lucas, Dominique Ramsey, and Kaz Windness. Though most importantly, Meriam gains her greatest source of inspiration from cool and unique animals! Meriam loves communicating interesting animal facts through illustration work and print work, and does so through the use of digital media, gouache, color pencil, gel pens, paint pens, linocuts and so forth.

One day Meriam wants to produce work for the very encyclopedias she reads from, as well as realistic fiction picture books for children. Some personal projects Meriam aspires to do in her future include an animal based tarot card set, mix and match animal magnets, and puzzle design. Meriam Schieber is currently working on a book about queer nature that children can read and find solidarity with. This project consists of linocut animals, mixed media environments, and digital touch ups. When Meriam’s not working on her current children’s book project, you can find her outside enjoying the presence of the sun and squirrels.
