Ryn Chapin
Kathryn “Ryn” Chapin is an artist living and working out of Kansas City. Originally from south-central Mississippi, Ryn was interested in storytelling from a young age, often daydreaming about fantastical worlds since her rural landscape offered little else for a young creative mind. Her work centers around stories set in mystical, arcane, and futuristic worlds, using her illustrations as a way to navigate and explore the intricacies of these other realities.
Inspired by 2D animated shows from her childhood, Ryn strives to create a sense of wonder and curiosity about the worlds in which her work is set. Ryn’s practice has a focus on concept art and character design as well as environmental storytelling, with her love for fantasy and sci-fi manifesting in the creation of multiple original stories that take shape in the form of graphic novels. She specializes in digital applications of illustrative techniques, but has a fondness for mediums such as gouache and india ink, specifically using them to create dramatic linework within her traditional pieces. Her work has been shown in galleries in both Mississippi and Missouri, as well as exhibited in the Mississippi Museum of Art.
