Rain Luzynski

Rain Luzynski is a nonbinary illustrator and painter originally from and based in Kansas City, Missouri. Rain is currently working on obtaining their BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute. Their work focuses on botanical subjects, insects, and introspective narratives. They aim to emphasize themes of belonging, identity, and connection with the natural world. Their favorite medias are gouache, graphite, and ink. Rain’s oeuvre consists of traditional paintings on both paper and raw wood, sketchbook explorations, tattoo designs, short-form comics. Rain’s work has been featured in publications such as Soft Quarterly and collaborative zines like TACK Comics and soon to be featured in Hallowzine.

Rain is inspired by scientific illustrations, indie comics, tattoos, and the beauty of the Earth and all its creatures. By combining painting, drawing, and personal experiences, they hope to tell stories of childhood wonder and personal identity through the lens of their adult self. They hope to instill a sense of well-being, curiosity, and wonder in the work they share with others. In the future, they plan to learn the trade of tattooing, continue exploring other media, and get more involved in the arts community in Kansas City.
