Taylor Sims
Taylor Sims is an illustrator and painter currently living in Kansas City, Missouri and originally from Little Rock, Arkansas and Newport News, Virginia. She is currently attending the Kansas City Art Institute and working to obtain her BFA in 2024.
Taylor has always been fascinated by insects and nature ever since she was little. She would always be outside trying to find moths, cicadas, june bugs, and her personal favorite, butterflies. As she grew up, they were always an important part of her as she had pet millipedes, a bug collection, and fell in love with the abundant beauty she saw in them. Before attending KCAI, she wanted to be an Entomologist, but figured that making beautiful illustrations of what she loved was more important. Taylor's work focuses on nature, flora, insects, and feminine identity. Through these themes, she hopes to capture the beauty of the world around her and find her identity within the flowers and the delicate butterfly wings. As well as showing the beauty that is to be found within everyday insects, big or small, beautiful or terrifying.
Her favorite mediums are gouache, ceramics, acrylic paint, and linoleum printing. As well as utilizing sketchbook exploration and experimentation with different mediums and art processes.
Taylor’s work is currently on display at the Society of Illustrators museum in New York City and soon to be featured in Hallowzine.
