It was such an honor to have Chris Sickels as our visiting artist this semester and have the opportunity to hear his story.
The visiting artist assignment, as formulated by Chris, was creating 4 small editorial illustrations and a fifth as a looping animation with a one week turnaround. After leaving their final products on display for judgement, students listened to his presentation on his career and artistic journey, beginning with his training as a 2-D illustrator and discovering his passion for DIY stop motion and 3-dimensional work; he found success and self-fulfillment despite being self-taught and working in an industry with quick turnarounds. His tale was one of perseverance, labor, and bottomless passion for one’s work.
We even got to see physical samples of his work after a very informative and in-depth Q&A! Super cool. Thanks, Chris!
